Position Summary
Roosevelt University’s Department of Biological, Physical and Health Sciences seeks to fill a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position on a 9-month renewable contract, beginning August 2024.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES : The primary responsibility of this position is to provide in-person lecture and laboratory instruction in Biological Science courses for health science, biology, and biochemistry majors. Class assignments may include both day and evening courses. Additional responsibilities include student advising and support, curriculum development and program assessment, and participation in department and college-level meetings, working groups, and governance.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Providing exceptional classroom and laboratory instruction in the general biology core courses and in select upper-level and graduate courses as appropriate.
Incorporating evidence-based teaching methods that enhance learning outcomes for a diverse population of students.
Serving as a resource for students as they navigate biology degrees and majors.
Participating in the development, implementation, and monitoring of practices that promote safe and inclusive learning environments.
Collaborating on the review and improvement of course materials, teaching methodologies, and assessment methods.
Engaging in scholarly and/or professional development activities that inform teaching and pedagogy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Master’s degree in biological science, science education, or related field
Documented successful college teaching experience
Years of Experience Required Certification/Licensure Required

Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral degree in biological science, science education, or related field
Experience using inclusive teaching methods to support student learning inside and outside of the classroom
Experience in incorporating demonstrations and technology into teaching, including the use of tools such as open educational resources, online homework systems and course management software
Experience in curriculum design and assessment, including using assessment results to improve course content and student learning outcomes
Demonstrated ability in laboratory instrument operation and maintenance
Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students in a range of majors and programs
Equipment Operated Standard office equipment.
Working Conditions
