TRAFFIC AND PLANNING MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY: Effectively lead, manage, train, and develop, a small team of entry-to-mid-level administrative & operational employees. Oversee all facets of containerized cargo movements, and appointment scheduling for all modes of transportation. Own the success of communication for internal and external customers for containerized cargo.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assure optimized appointment schedules are attained for Dispatch across various modes
Delegation of tasks and job duties to employees in line with senior management's vision
Maintain records of all freight movements
Use various web-based software systems to attain delivery appointments, update shared files, track ocean & rail cargo, verify holds & releases, empty returns, yard checks, etc.
Mitigate equipment dwell time
Mitigate per diem and demurrage costs
Hit KPIs set forth by senior management and executive staff
Forecast demand based on import volumes
Collaborate with warehousing customers and dispatch to plan success through volume influxes
Inside sales quoting in conjunction with executive pricing instructions
Consult with internal and external clients about their needs and set solutions in place to meet these needs
•Handle requests for information and data
•Resolve challenging staffing, procedural, workflow, and other situations
•Performance improvement, development, termination, and hiring of staff within team
•Complete Performance Evaluations at policy intervals
•Provide recommendations on merit increases
Professionally field calls and emails
Build a rapport with existing clients, shippers, receivers, ports, terminals, steamship lines, etc.
Effectively fill in for any employees within his/her team to assure no operational or communicative gaps
Other duties or tasks as assigned by management
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
•Strong computer skills, with advanced knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel
•Aptitude to quickly learn new programs

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
•Minimum of 1-2 years prior middle management experience in a for-hire fleet or equivalent
•History of executing transportation and logistics best practices, especially within the drayage sector
•Experience with McLeod Software system is preferred
•Knowledge of operation of standard office equipment
•Knowledge of basic FMCSA, USDOT, and MDOT regulations
