Job Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Counseling (18 Credits, Tenure Track, Residential)

Counseling Division faculty in this position play an essential role in Denver Seminary’s academic mission by contributing excellent teaching, student mentoring, spiritual modeling and institutional service as needed. Faculty (non-tenure track) in the Counseling Division typically teach 24 credit hours of graduate courses per academic year and is eligible for rank advancement. The faculty member will be required to contribute productively to public or peer-reviewed scholarship in their appropriate discipline to align with the faculty member’s professional goals as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. In the area of scholarship, Counseling Division faculty on this track are expected primarily to remain current in their discipline relevant to their area of andragogy. Other duties may be assigned in place of teaching in order to make up a full load. This non-tenure track position is a twelve-month renewable agreement.

Essential Functions Maintain a course load that includes courses in the PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision program and the MA Counseling program

Prepare course syllabi and submit copies of the syllabi to the appropriate departments in a timely fashion

Prepare and deliver teaching content, course materials, and exams in the appropriate modality for assigned courses

Grade exams and required assignments and submit final grades to Registrar in a timely manner

Communicate with students needing assistance with the course and be available each week for student questions and concerns

Advise students on academic matters and refer questions as needed to the Registrar or appropriate department

Serve on faculty committees as assigned by the Academic Dean

Participate in professional organizations

Teach curriculum in multiple modalities, including distance learning formats

Serve on at least 2 PhD Dissertation or MA thesis teams to oversee student academic growth and research development

Education/Training Required

PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program

Experience teaching in CACREP-accredited Counseling programs in higher education

Clinical counseling and clinical supervision experience and training

Licensed, or licensed eligible, as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado

Committed personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with Denver Seminary’s Community Values and Behavioral Commitments.

Demonstrated commitment to social justice and advocacy

Agreement with Denver Seminary’s Statement of Faith and Statement on Human Sexuality

Knowledge and teaching skills commensurate with working in a CACREP-approved program

Knowledge and teaching skills commensurate with working in an accredited Seminary including the ability to integrate faith and practice

Excellent collegiality and collaborative skills

Preferred

Lived experience in a Hispanic, Asian, or underrepresented cultural context

Theological training and experience (preferably at the master’s level)

Experience teaching Ph.D. level courses

Ability to teach across multiple modalities

Experience in oversight and involvement in Dissertation Supervision

Relevant experience and ability to teach courses in at least three of the following areas: Theological Foundations of Counseling, Spirituality and Counseling, Marriage and Family, Addictions, Social and Cultural Foundations, Professional Orientation/Ethics, Assessment and Measurement, Research Methods, Psychopharmacology, Trauma, Sexuality, Groups, Clinical Training sequence, Career Development and Assessment, Dissertation Proposal Development, and Dissertation oversight.

Typical Physical Demands and Working Conditions Normal office working conditions including computer usage; may require occasional standing, walking, long periods of sitting, climb stairs, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
