Lead Counsel, Privacy (Legislation)

Meta is seeking a highly motivated privacy attorney to join the legal team supporting the company's efforts to come into compliance with federal and state privacy and consumer protection regulations. You will be advising the company on cutting-edge tech legal issues, ensuring our commitment to privacy, and helping the company understand and prepare for new data protection laws and legislative trends. An ideal candidate for the role will have a solid understanding of core privacy laws and principles and a strong grasp of online technologies. The candidate must be a clear communicator and be able to collaborate across functions, including Meta's legal and policy teams. You will join a collegial and growing team of privacy lawyers who identify, evaluate and address privacy risk in light of emerging laws, compliance obligations and policies.
Lead Counsel, Privacy (Legislation) Responsibilities
Drive high-profile and high-impact projects involving privacy analysis with cross-functional stakeholders across Meta's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments
Drive internal awareness and consensus around legal trends and help develop proactive positions and interpretations on diverse data-related policy issues
Lead consensus building across legal and coordinate legal advice across complex and multifaceted legal issues such as data protection and privacy, consumer protection, security, and other global legal frameworks.
Advise clients on regulatory trends, including drafting summaries, legal advice, and other legislative analysis
Drive the top of the funnel for the Meta-wide Regulatory Readiness process as it relates to privacy, youth, and AI laws.
Minimum Qualifications
J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar
5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience with internet or technology companies (applicable litigation, regulatory, or product counseling will be considered)
Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media, internet and technology companies.
Business judgment and client counseling experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working proactively, independently and reliably under tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment
Experience demonstrating initiative in driving solutions cross-functionally
Experience managing complex projects with strong attention to detail
Experience collaborating in a multi-stakeholder environment, navigating complex issues, and driving high-impact projects
Privacy experience, including with domestic data protection frameworks such as CCPA
Experience advising on privacy and data protection matters or experience advising on newly passed legislation and position development
