Design/BIM Technician

Department: Building Information Modeling (BIM)

Reports To: Virtual Design and Construction Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Design/BIM Technician is responsible for initiating and creating project-specific shop drawings while actively supporting project coordination teams with model modifications. This position requires intermediate proficiency in BIM, modeling, and clash-detection software, along with the ability to interpret architectural, structural, and engineering documents.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation in BIM and construction documentation and is capable of working independently while collaborating with Coordinators, Senior Technicians, and other members of the BIM team.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Initiate and create project-specific shop drawings in accordance with project requirements, specifications, and established standards.

Support Coordinators and Senior Technicians with model modifications and updates.

Work as part of a BIM/CAD support team to achieve consistent, accurate, and high-quality results.

Review architectural, structural, and engineering documents to develop accurate shop drawings and models.

Assist coordination teams with identifying and resolving model-related issues.

Upload and download model files and related project information through cloud-based platforms.

Maintain accurate and organized project files and documentation.

Collaborate with BIM team members and project stakeholders to support project schedules and deliverables.

Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Associate degree in Design, Drafting, Architecture, Construction, or a related field preferred.

Two years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Previous experience with BIM, drafting, construction documents, or a related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to comprehend and interpret architectural and construction documents.

Ability to comprehend and interpret engineering design packages in relation to a given project.

Ability to comprehend and interpret structural documents for each project.

Understanding of construction processes and how design documents translate into field applications.

Ability to upload, download, manage, and transfer model formats through cloud-based platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Procore, and similar applications.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.

Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.

Computer Skills

AutoCAD: Proficient in creating and modifying objects in both 2D and 3D.

Revit: Proficient in creating and modifying families, templates, and parameters.

Navisworks: Proficient in navigating models, running clash detections, and identifying coordination issues.

Bluebeam: Proficient in creating markups, pulling dimensions, and editing PDFs.

Microsoft Office: Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
