Senior DevOps EngineerThe Harvard Medical School Department of Information Technology is seeking a talented Senior DevOps Engineer with a strong background focused on managing environments that must meet federal security standards. The Senior DevOps Engineer will be responsible for secure research computing environments (SRCE), a FISMA-certified AWS cloud infrastructure environment, enabling the groundbreaking biomedical research of some of the world's foremost scientific investigators.Core Duties:Oversee operational activities of the SRCE – deployment, monitoring, reporting, patching, and compliance, in partnership with HMS infrastructure and research computing teamsUtilize best-practice cloud security designs to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the secure environmentManage a continuous integration and deployment methodology for AWS-based technologiesManage full application stacks from the OS through custom research applications using AWSProvide high-level support on technical computing issues to end users and developersDocument complex technology, data protection, confidentiality, and data residency solutionsPlay a key role in the planning, implementation and growth of the SRCEDrive continuous improvement of the SRCE through process, architecture, and cost-saving refinementsParticipate fully in software development life cycleResearch, design, and implement technical solutions to deliver business requirementsIdentify opportunities to improve and simplify applications portfolio and implement related enhancementsContribute to creation and maturing of software development best practices and new technologiesDraw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients and to mentor junior staffAbide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of ConductParticipate in off-hours on-call rotationQualificationsBasic Qualifications:Minimum of five years' post-secondary education or relevant work experienceAdditional Qualifications and Skills:Knowledge of information technology applications, processes, software and equipmentHighly specialized knowledge of a specific technologyDemonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisorCritical to this position is the ability to work independently and to make decisions at the appropriate time, taking into account the needs of the situation, priorities, constraints and the availability of necessary information all in support of the core research computing mission.A strong conceptual and practical understanding of cloud security controls, principles and best practicesExperience and understanding of legal and regulatory standards (PCI, FedRAMP, CCPA, GDPR, etc.) as they pertain to a secure computing environment2+ years of experience in healthcare systems and authorities operations, such as FISMA, FedRAMP or HIPPA-regulated environment architecture/designsExperience with AWS technologies which may include IAM, EC2, EBS, ELB, RDS, RedShift, S3, Glacier, Route 53, Gateways, VPCs, CloudWatch, Lambda scripts, CloudFormation, VDI, Appstream 2.0, Control Tower, Service CatalogAmazon Web Services (AWS) certification preferredExperience supporting large-scale enterprise IT cloud projectsHands-on experience with distributed resource management and virtualization technologiesExperience communicating technical issues to executive level audiencesExperience with the following technologies is a plus: -Puppet / Foreman / Terraform / Jenkins -Containerization technologies: Docker, Singularity, Kubernetes, Amazon ECS -Open-source databases: MySQL/Mariadb, Postgres -Scripting languages, such as Bash and Python -GitHub and git workflows -AWS Service Work Bench -Qualys, Checkmarx -SplunkCertificates and Licenses:Completion of Harvard IT Academy specified foundational courses (or external equivalent) preferredAdditional InformationStandard Hours/Schedule: 35 hours per weekVisa Sponsorship Information: Harvard University is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this positionPre-Employment Screening: Identity, CriminalStaying Informed About Your Application: Due to the high volume of applications, we may not always be able to reach out right away, but you can track your status anytime through the Careers@Harvard portalWork Format DetailsThis position has been determined by school or unit leaders that some of the duties and responsibilities can be effectively performed at a non-Harvard location.
