Job Description

Software Engineer – Java / Cloud Platform – TS/SCI w/polyLocation: Annapolis Junction, MD Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph RequiredDevelop mission-critical software supporting some of the Intelligence Community's largest distributed computing environments. As a Software Engineer, you'll join an agile product development team building and sustaining applications that power large-scale compute clusters operating in highly available, mission-focused environments. This role spans the full software development lifecycle—from requirements analysis and design through deployment, operations, and continuous improvement—while working alongside experienced engineers solving complex technical challenges.What You'll DoAs a Software Engineer, you will:Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain Java-based applications supporting large-scale distributed computing environments.Participate in the full Agile software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, software design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations.Develop solutions that integrate and extend commercial (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) technologies.Perform code reviews, architecture reviews, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and root cause analysis.Deploy and manage software using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and modern CI/CD practices.Support software running within containerized and microservices-based architectures.Monitor production systems, resolve operational issues, and participate in Tier III on-call support.Mentor junior developers by providing technical guidance and participating in peer reviews.Collaborate with engineers, system administrators, and mission stakeholders to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.QualificationsBasic Qualifications:High School Diploma or GED and Five (5) years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.Note: Relevant education may be substituted for the required experience as follows:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field = 2 years of experienceMaster's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field = 4 years of experienceExperience developing software with high level languages such as Java, C, C++Experience in software integration and software testing, to include developing and implementing test plans and test scripts.Experience developing software for UNIX/Linux (Redhat versions 3-5) operating systems.One of the following certifications are required:AWS Certified Developer - AssociateAWS Certified Machine Learning - AssociateAWS Certified Machine Learning - SpecialtyAWS DevOps Engineer ProfessionalCertified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraphAdditional Qualifications That Will Set You ApartExperience with one or more of the following technologies is highly desired:Apache HadoopApache AccumuloApache NiFiMongoDBActiveMQ or other message broker technologiesSpring FrameworkPython and Bash scriptingAWS Cloud and hybrid cloud environmentsSecurity and compliance best practicesData warehouses, analytics platforms, and large-scale data flowsWhy Join Peraton?Heavily subsidized medical benefits for employees and dependents25 days of PTO accrued annuallyAnnual bonus opportunity tied to mission performance10 paid federal holidaysOpportunities to work on cutting-edge cloud, big data, and distributed computing technologies supporting the Intelligence CommunityPeraton OverviewPeraton is a next-generation national security company that drives missions of consequence spanning the globe and extending to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
