Job Description

Controller Position

OWL Services is looking for a Controller, who has specific experience working within the Construction industry. This role will be based out of our office in Fort Worth, TX.

Responsibilities:

  • Revenue Recognition: Apply the Percentage of Completion method to recognize revenue accurately. Calculate earned revenue based on actual costs incurred versus total estimated costs.
  • WIP Reporting: Prepare monthly Work in Progress reports for all active projects. Analyze under-billings and over-billings to manage cash flow risks.
  • Cost Tracking: Monitor project budgets, actual labor, and material expenses. Identify cost overruns early and report variances to project managers. Oversee tracking of labor, materials, and overhead for accurate work-in-progress (WIP) reports. Track project costs, labor, and materials against estimated budgets.
  • Forecasting & Budgeting: Update estimates at completion (EAC) for ongoing projects. Prepare annual budgeting. Partner with project managers to build realistic project budgets and review variance reports.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain strong financial controls and compliance rules across the company.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with operations and project managers to review project performance. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company accounting policies.
  • Financial Reporting: Run the Month-end close cycle. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Prepare monthly income statements, balance sheets, and project-specific financial analysis.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Partner with project managers to build realistic project budgets and review variance reports.
  • Compliance and Tax: Manage local, state, and federal tax compliance, insurance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitor cash flow requirements for current and upcoming jobs. Produce 13-week cash flow & Liquidity Report.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of construction accounting principles (such as percentage-of-completion revenue recognition) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Software: Familiarity with construction ERP and accounting software (e.g., SAGE), Microsoft Suite
