Senior Database AdministratorLocation: Onsite/Hybrid — Manhattan, Madison Office, NY 3 days a week (NY/NJ candidates only)Employment Type: Full-Time / Direct HireIndustry: Financial Services (Trading Domain highly needed)Key Focus: Must have strong background in Financial Services (Trading would be AWESOME)…A stable job history will be added to the bonus.Position Summary: We are actively searching for an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with specialized knowledge across diverse database technologies, including Amazon RDS (MySQL/PostgreSQL), Amazon Redshift, Redis, and Progress OpenEdge. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in hybrid cloud environments, excels at performance tuning, and is passionate about ensuring the security, stability, and scalability of enterprise-level databases. You'll be instrumental in shaping database architecture, managing mission-critical systems, and collaborating across development, operations, and analytics teams to support seamless data operations.Core Responsibilities:Provision, configure, and maintain databases across Amazon RDS (MySQL/PostgreSQL), Amazon Redshift, Redis, and Progress OpenEdge.Continuously analyze performance metrics and optimize queries, indexes, and configurations to achieve peak system responsiveness.Build and maintain automation scripts for routine maintenance, deployments, and backups using tools such as Python, Bash, or Terraform.Partner with engineering teams to scale infrastructure in alignment with application growth.Implement proactive monitoring strategies using tools like Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, CloudWatch or similar.Design and enforce robust HA/DR solutions, failover configurations, and data replication across environments.Ensure compliance with security standards including data encryption, access control, auditing, SOC etc.Participate in vulnerability assessments and patch management cycles.Act as a subject matter expert to engineering, product, and BI teams.Translate business requirements into performant, scalable data solutions.Required Experience & Skills:5–7+ years as a Database Administrator working in cloud-based and on-premises environments.Proven expertise in: Amazon RDS (PostgreSQL and/or MySQL), Amazon Redshift for large-scale analytics/data warehousing, Redis for caching and real-time use cases, Progress OpenEdge administration in complex enterprise setups.Strong scripting ability with Python, Shell, or PowerShell.Comfortable navigating DevOps pipelines and CI/CD processes.Preferred Qualifications: AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Solutions Architect, or equivalent certifications. Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation). Familiarity with containerized deployment environments such as Docker and Kubernetes. Working knowledge of data governance frameworks and regulatory compliance protocols.
