A growing small-to-medium commercial construction company is seeking a hands‑on Construction Project Manager to lead ground-up commercial construction and tenant-improvement projects throughout the Chicago area.
This is a true project-management role for someone who enjoys owning a job from preconstruction through closeout: managing the budget, schedule, subcontractors, client communication, change orders, and project profitability. You will work closely with field leadership, but this is not a superintendent position.
Projects include ground-up commercial construction and tenant improvements across multi-family, retail, automotive, aviation, hospitality, industrial, healthcare, education, and municipal/K-12 environments.
What You'll Do Manage multiple ground-up commercial construction and tenant-improvement projects concurrently, typically totaling $15M-$25M+ annually
Own project financial performance, including budgets, forecasts, buyout, cost tracking, change orders, purchase orders, and billing
Serve as the primary contact for clients, architects, owners, subcontractors, and internal project teams
Partner with the superintendent to build and maintain realistic project schedules
Lead project meetings, drive timely decisions, resolve issues, and keep stakeholders aligned
Coordinate submittals, RFIs, procurement, closeout, and day-to-day project documentation
Build strong subcontractor and client relationships while protecting quality, schedule, and profitability
What We're Looking For Approximately 3-7 years of construction project-management experience, ideally with a commercial general contractor
Ground-up commercial construction experience strongly preferred; tenant improvements, renovations, industrial, healthcare, education, municipal/K-12, retail, multi-family, automotive, aviation, or hospitality project experience is also highly relevant
Demonstrated ownership of project budgets, schedules, subcontractor coordination, change orders, and client communication
Comfortable managing multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft Project or similar scheduling tools
Strong communication, organization, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
Valid driver's license and ability to visit project sites as needed
$120,000-$150,000 base salary . Comprehensive benefits, 401(k) match, PTO, and career-development opportunities are included.
