Sr. Systems Engineer - Linux

Job Description

Senior Systems EngineerAxos is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. This position is on-site and located at our HQ in San Diego CA. Remote is not offered. Axos is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our team. You will be responsible for managing and automating enterprise Linux/Unix platforms across VMware-based on-prem and hybrid environments. Ensures high availability, security compliance, and operational stability of mission-critical banking applications. You will also act as an L2/L3 System Engineer resource, working across IT Infrastructure teams in a regulated banking environment.Responsibilities:Manage Linux/Unix systems (build, patching, performance tuning)Ensure system stability, security hardening, and uptimeSupport application teams with OS and middleware dependenciesParticipate in Major Incident (P1/P2) management and RCADrive automation to reduce manual recovery efforts like Bash / Python.Develop and maintain Puppet modules/manifestsAutomate server provisioning, patching, and application deploymentEnforce configuration standardization and drift remediationAdminister vSphere, ESXi, and vCenterProvision and manage Unix/Linux VMs and templatesSupport capacity planning, performance tuning, and DR (Zerto)Ensure adherence to SOX, FFIEC, and internal security policiesPerform patching, vulnerability remediation, and access controlMaintain audit-ready documentation and compliance postureSupport enterprise backup and DR solutionsParticipate in DR drills and failover testingEnsure high availability and no single point of failureExecute changes via ServiceNow (CAB, risk, rollback)Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and documentation.Requirements:5+ years of experience in Linux AdministrationStrong expertise in Puppet (configuration management)Hands-on experience with VMware (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)Experience in production support / incident managementScripting: Bash / PythonKnowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS) and storage systemsExperience with ITSM (incident/change management)Preferred:RHCE / RHCSAVMware VCPPuppet Certified ProfessionalITILAxos Employee Benefits May Include:Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life InsurancePaid Sick Leave, 3 weeks' Vacation, and Holidays (about 11 a year)HSA or FSA account and other voluntary benefits401(k) Retirement Saving Plan with Employer Match Program and 529 Savings PlanEmployee Mortgage Loan Program and free access to an Axos Bank Account with Self-Directed TradingAbout AxosBorn digital-first, Axos delivers financial tools and services that allow individuals, small businesses, and companies to access and manage their money how, when, and where they want.
