Overview
Our client is seeking a Process / Automation Engineer to support startup, commissioning, qualification, and production operations within a highly automated device assembly and packaging environment. This is a hybrid role that sits at the intersection of process engineering and automation engineering, requiring strong troubleshooting skills, technical curiosity, and the ability to work directly with manufacturing teams to solve complex operational challenges.
This engineer will support packaging operations and play a key role in ensuring equipment readiness, process reliability, automation performance, and successful production execution as the area continues to scale.
What You'll Be Working On
Startup & Production Support
Support startup, commissioning, qualification, and production launch activities.
Drive equipment readiness efforts and help ensure systems are prepared for manufacturing operations.
Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Automation, and Quality teams to resolve issues impacting production.
Serve as a technical resource during startup and ramp-up activities.
Automation & Controls Troubleshooting
Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, vision system, and equipment integration issues.
Investigate automation failures, process deviations, and equipment downtime events.
Work across multiple controls platforms including:
Rockwell Automation
Siemens
B&R Automation
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability and efficiency.
Process Engineering Support
Analyze production processes and identify opportunities for optimization.
Perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions.
Partner with manufacturing teams to improve throughput, quality, and equipment performance.
Ensure engineering decisions align with downstream operational requirements.
Vision Systems & Packaging Equipment
Support Cognex vision systems used throughout packaging operations.
Troubleshoot inspection systems, scanners, sensors, and automation devices.
Work with packaging equipment including labeling, cartoning, tray unloading, case packing, and palletizing systems.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Chemical, or related field).
Experience supporting manufacturing equipment or industrial automation systems.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Experience working cross-functionally with operations and maintenance teams.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Rockwell PLC experience.
Startup, commissioning, or CQV experience.
Cognex vision systems experience.
HMI troubleshooting experience.
Pharmaceutical, medical device, or GMP manufacturing experience.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate combines hands-on automation troubleshooting with process engineering knowledge. They are comfortable digging into equipment issues, asking questions, collaborating with operators, and driving solutions that improve manufacturing performance. We are looking for engineers who understand not just how a system functions technically, but how their decisions impact production, quality, and downstream operations.
