Company Description McDonough Mechanical Services Inc. is a full-service refrigeration and piping contractor specializing in ammonia (NH₃) refrigeration for the food and beverage industry. The company supports refrigerated facilities across Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Virginia with services that include piping installation and replacement, general refrigeration maintenance, and system design. McDonough Mechanical Services Inc. works with both ammonia and halocarbon refrigeration, as well as glycol systems, HVAC systems, and refrigeration control systems. The organization also provides PSM/RMP audits, documentation assistance, mechanical integrity inspections, and relief valve services, offering comprehensive technical support for industrial refrigeration operations.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Service Technician role based in Baltimore, MD. The Service Technician will perform daily maintenance and repair of industrial refrigeration and piping systems, including ammonia and halocarbon equipment, glycol systems, and HVAC components. Responsibilities include troubleshooting system issues, replacing refrigeration components and relief valves, assisting with piping installation and insulation, and supporting mechanical integrity inspections. The role involves field service at customer sites, accurate documentation of work performed, and collaboration with team members to support system design and control system adjustments. The Service Technician will communicate with customers on service needs, provide clear updates on work status, and help ensure safe, efficient operation of refrigeration systems.

Qualifications

Strong Maintenance & Repair and Maintenance skills for industrial refrigeration, piping, and HVAC systems.

Proficient Troubleshooting skills to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.

Field Service experience working on-site at customer facilities and managing service calls.

Effective Customer Service skills to communicate clearly, set expectations, and maintain professional relationships.

Knowledge of ammonia and halocarbon refrigeration systems, glycol systems, and basic HVAC principles.

Understanding of safety practices and regulatory standards related to industrial refrigeration (e.g., PSM/RMP, mechanical integrity).

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.

Relevant technical training or certification in refrigeration, HVAC, or mechanical systems; apprenticeship or trade school experience is beneficial.

Capability to work in industrial environments, including lifting, climbing, and working in various temperatures.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites within the region.
