Job Description

Serves as one of the Institute for Advanced Computing (IAC) graduate program coordinators and performs duties in support of IAC’s educational programs, including but not limited to Master of Engineering, which span across the Alexandria and Blacksburg campuses, as well as supporting new graduate programs as they become available.

The position will report to the director of graduate programs at IAC. The main responsibilities include (1) providing day-to-day support to current graduate students and undergraduate accelerated students including onboarding, student records maintenance, inquiries and form submission to the Graduate school, and graduation and registration matters; (2) acting as a contact and representative of the IAC graduate programs to prospective students, corporate partners, vendors and others; (3) assisting with the scheduling, preparation and promoting events, including open houses, information sessions, career fairs, and other activities; and (4) providing backup for other academic administrative staff at IAC and providing clerical support to the graduate program director and IAC faculty.

Required Qualifications

Previous customer service and/or administrative support experience in an academic or business setting

Demonstrated computer skills and experience with spreadsheets, database applications and other software used for record keeping and tracking

Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and the ability to evaluate needs, establish priorities, make quick decisions, exercise sound judgment, and execute both departmental and Graduate School policies

Exceptional organization, communication, and interpersonal skills

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience maintaining student records including admissions support, programs of study support, and international student support

Experience with application tracking systems and Elucian Banner Student and Navigate

Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of clientele, including students, prospective students, faculty/staff members, administrators and other visitors

Interest and experience in working effectively with a diverse student population

Degree in higher education or related field

Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a high-pressure environment

Ability to work independently and function as a member of a team

Experience supporting graduate students in higher education/continuing education settings

Experience with social media posting and outreach
