STEM Outreach Program Coordinator

The STEM Outreach Program Coordinator will support the Army Research Laboratory K-12 STEM Education and Outreach Program by planning, coordinating, and executing STEM outreach programs, educational activities, community engagement events, curriculum support, program administration, and maker space operations.

This role will support ARL's mission to engage K-12 students, educators, families, community partners, scientists, and engineers through STEM-focused programming, demonstrations, presentations, lab activities, and outreach events. The Coordinator will work closely with ARL scientists and engineers, internal and external customers, students, parents, educators, and Government stakeholders to ensure outreach initiatives are professionally executed, properly tracked, and aligned with program goals.

The ideal candidate will have experience in program coordination, STEM education, outreach, event support, curriculum assistance, database tracking, facility coordination, and hands-on technical learning environments such as maker spaces or laboratory demonstration spaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the planning, coordination, and execution of STEM outreach programs, events, activities, demonstrations, and initiatives.
• Maintain familiarity with Army research technology and ARL STEM focus areas.
• Engage ARL scientists and engineers to support outreach program initiatives.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to support K-12 STEM education activities.
• Assist internal and external customers in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
• Support outreach efforts that promote student engagement, STEM awareness, and community participation.
• Help ensure outreach activities are well-organized, properly staffed, and aligned with program objectives.

• Review existing educational curriculum and provide support for curriculum improvement.
• Assist with the development of new STEM curriculum and instructional materials.
• Support delivery of student presentations, STEM lessons, demonstrations, and educational activities.
• Provide basic STEM instruction to students during approved programs, events, and outreach activities.
• Assist with adapting STEM content for age-appropriate student audiences.
• Support hands-on learning activities, demonstrations, and engagement opportunities for K-12 participants.

• Provide administrative support for the ARL K-12 STEM Education and Outreach Program.
• Manage student and parent correspondence.
• Maintain program databases, participant tracking tools, event records, and administrative documentation.
• Support metrics reporting, program tracking, and responses to data calls.
• Assist with scheduling, records management, reporting, and administrative coordination.
• Maintain accurate program records and ensure required information is available for Government review.
• Support recurring and ad hoc administrative needs associated with STEM outreach programs.

• Leverage relationships with scientists and engineers to secure personnel for community initiatives, career talks, tabling events, and laboratory demonstrations.
• Coordinate event logistics, including tabling kits, student computers, display cords, materials, and outreach supplies.
• Attend events to provide on-site support and coordination.
• Directly run community laboratory demonstrations when scientists and engineers are unavailable.
• Support outreach events, STEM fairs, school engagements, career events, community initiatives, and other program activities.
• Ensure science and engineering community events are accurately tracked in the DEVCOM STEM Outreach Report.
• Provide professional event support to students, parents, educators, ARL staff, and community partners.

• Manage the designated Educational Outreach Office space in the Converge Center.
• Support daily operations of the Educational Outreach Office.
• Oversee safety and emergency management requirements within the assigned office and outreach space.
• Support key control, visitor control, logistics, and IT support liaison responsibilities.
• Track facility maintenance issues and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
• Maintain strict inventory of on-site and loaned items.
• Ensure program materials, equipment, and supplies are organized, tracked, and available for outreach activities.
• Complete required Government training and certification in Hazardous Waste Management and Laser Safety.

• Serve as the technical lead for the STEM facility maker space.
• Ensure maker space equipment is in proper working condition.
• Maintain equipment and alert Government personnel of maintenance, supply, and upgrade needs.
• Provide safety briefings to users of the STEM maker space.
• Ensure personnel read and sign applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
• Provide oversight and training to maker space users.
• Support hands-on STEM activities involving maker space tools, equipment, and demonstrations.
• Achieve proficiency in 3D printing within three months of contract award.

• Comply with applicable safety, occupational health, emergency management, security, environmental, logistics, and facility operations requirements.
• Follow specific procedures, limitations, and cautions applicable to individual equipment.
• Maintain required safety certifications and training records.
• Report accidents, injuries, occupational illness, or damage to Government property in accordance with ARL procedures.
• Complete required Government training listed in TED.
• Sign and comply with Government system acceptable use policies.
• Follow all requirements related to working with minors, including CNACI requirements and line-of-sight supervision rules until final CNACI adjudication is complete.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.
• Must be eligible for submission for a Secret clearance.
• Must be eligible for a Common Access Card after favorable adjudication.
• Must be able to complete a Child Care National Agency Check and Inquiry due to regular contact with minors.
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
• Bachelor's degree with two years of specialized experience in program coordination; or four years of specialized experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully in the position.
• Experience supporting program coordination, outreach programs, educational programs, events, administrative tracking, or related activities.
• Ability to provide professional, courteous, and timely support to internal and external customers.
• Ability to support K-12 STEM education activities, student presentations, curriculum review, and basic STEM instruction.
• Ability to manage correspondence, databases, metrics, reports, and data calls.
• Ability to coordinate events, logistics, materials, and on-site support.
• Ability to support facility operations, inventory tracking, safety requirements, and visitor coordination.
• Ability to achieve 3D printing proficiency within three months of contract award.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a STEM technical field or as a STEM educator.
• Experience supporting K-12 STEM outreach, youth education, science demonstrations, laboratory tours, maker space activities, or community STEM events.
• Experience working with scientists, engineers, educators, students, parents, and community partners.
• Experience with database management, metrics reporting, event tracking, and program administration.
• Experience supporting Government, military, laboratory, academic, or research outreach environments.
• Familiarity with 3D printing, maker space equipment, lab demonstrations, safety briefings, and hands-on STEM learning activities.
• Experience coordinating outreach events at schools, community venues, Government facilities, or STEM education centers.
