Staff Software Engineer Location: Brooklyn, NY or San Mateo, CA (1 day onsite per week) Duration: FTE

Manager's Expectation: NodeJS, JavaScript/TypeScript, GCP – Big Query, MongoDB, NoSQL

Overview We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across full-stack application development and platform initiatives. This is a hands-on role focused on designing, building, and scaling cloud-native SaaS products. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB, GCP/BigQuery, and Kubernetes, along with strong experience building and scaling full-stack applications. This role requires a senior technical leader who can influence architecture, solve complex engineering problems, and drive technical direction across teams.

Responsibilities Lead the design and development of scalable full-stack SaaS applications and backend services.

Drive architectural decisions across application, API, data, and platform layers.

Develop production applications and services using JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.

Build and support cloud-native applications on GCP, including solutions leveraging BigQuery.

Design, develop, and optimize applications running in Kubernetes environments.

Design and optimize data solutions using MongoDB and NoSQL databases.

Improve application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.

Partner with Product, Design, Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship across engineering teams.

Participate in architecture and design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, and production issue resolution.

Help establish engineering best practices around testing, deployment, observability, and operational reliability.

Required Skills 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Experience operating at Staff Engineer or equivalent senior technical scope.

Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript and TypeScript.

Strong full-stack application development experience.

Strong experience with Node.js.

Production experience with MongoDB and NoSQL databases.

Strong experience with GCP, including BigQuery.

Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and cloud-native application environments.

Experience building and scaling SaaS products.

Strong software architecture and distributed systems experience.

Experience developing scalable APIs and production services.

Strong debugging, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.

Proven ability to influence technical direction across teams without direct authority.

Preferred Skills Experience with Rust.

Experience with React or Vue.js.

Experience with event-driven or distributed architectures.

Experience scaling high-availability SaaS platforms.

Experience with DevOps, SRE, observability, and production reliability practices.

Experience working with large-scale data platforms and analytics workloads.

Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
