Yard Manager - Landscaping - Base Salary to 73k/year - Los Angeles, CA

  • Our client is an established commercial landscape and irrigation contractor serving general contractors, public agencies, developers, institutions, and commercial property teams throughout Southern California. Their work includes commercial landscape construction, planting, soil preparation, irrigation installation, and related project coordination.
  • They are seeking a hands-on Yard Manager to oversee yard operations, fleet and equipment maintenance, inventory, and job-site deliveries. This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing trucks, trailers, small engines, and landscape/construction equipment; organizing tools and materials; and transporting equipment and supplies to project sites throughout Southern California using a Class A commercial driver's license.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine repairs on company trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving small engines and landscape/construction equipment.
  • Maintain equipment including mowers, skid steers, trenchers, irrigation equipment, trailers, and other machinery used by field crews.
  • Conduct regular equipment and vehicle inspections to identify preventive maintenance and repair needs.
  • Keep vehicles and equipment fueled, clean, maintained, and ready for daily use.
  • Maintain service, repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance records.
  • Manage commonly used replacement parts, fluids, filters, and maintenance supplies.
  • Coordinate outside repairs and specialized equipment service as needed.
  • Manage daily yard operations, including the organization, cleanliness, and safety of yard and storage areas.
  • Stage tools, equipment, materials, and supplies for upcoming projects and field crews.
  • Track inventory of tools, equipment, materials, parts, and supplies and identify shortages.
  • Receive incoming deliveries and verify materials against purchase orders.
  • Ensure plants, soils, chemicals, equipment, and other materials are stored appropriately.
  • Coordinate equipment, materials, and delivery needs with project managers, field supervisors, and office staff.
  • Maintain yard and equipment operations in accordance with applicable company and OSHA safety requirements.
  • Transport equipment, materials, tools, and supplies between the yard, suppliers, nurseries, and project sites throughout Southern California.
  • Operate company trucks and trailers and perform equipment hauling and job-site deliveries.
  • Load, secure, transport, and unload equipment and materials.
  • Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Maintain required driver and vehicle documentation.
  • Coordinate deliveries and equipment moves with project managers and field supervisors.
  • Pick up materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Valid California Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) and ability to meet company driving requirements.
  • 3+ years of experience involving yard operations, fleet maintenance, equipment maintenance, or a similar hands-on role.
  • Hands‑on experience maintaining and repairing vehicles, small engines, and/or construction or landscape equipment.
  • Experience operating trucks and trailers and transporting equipment.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical problems and performing or coordinating equipment repairs.
  • Experience with inventory management, equipment tracking, materials management, or yard operations.
  • Ability to perform job‑related physical tasks, including loading and unloading equipment and materials and working outdoors.
