Job Description

Stormwater Maintenance WorkerThe Stormwater Maintenance Worker performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks as a member of a stormwater drainage maintenance and repair crew, under the general direction of the Public Works Streets and Drainage Supervisor. This individual safely performs manual labor tasks and operates tools and equipment to build, repair and maintain municipal stormwater systems.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesRepresents the City of Red Oak in a professional, appropriate manner at all times. Performs various tasks such as:Repairing concrete and/or asphalt pavementMaintenance and repair of storm-drain inlets and flumesInspect, maintain, clean, and repair stormwater pipes and drainage ditchesTrash & debris clean-up on streets and right-of-waysBarricade maintenanceTree trimmingIce & flood controlExcavating by use of hand toolsWeed eatingMowingOperates a variety of Public Works equipment relative to work assignments, including:JackhammersSpray paint gunsRollersFront-end loadersTamperChainsawsWeed eaters & mowersTrucksAssists in painting or installing buttons, crosswalks, and other traffic markings. Assists in the clearing of roadways. Assists in street department projects. Supports the relationship between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions. Performs all job duties, tasks, and activities according to work instructions, defined procedures, and policies. Performs all work activities in a safe manner and follows all safety rules. Performs related duties as assigned or required by supervisor. Identifies, records and reports problems that interfere with completion of job duties, and initiates, recommends, or provides solutions as appropriate. Keeps work areas clean and orderly. Exemplifies a cooperative attitude to work effectively with others. Protects classified, confidential, and sensitive information.QualificationsEDUCATION & EXPERIENCEHigh School diploma or GED requiredEntry level position, previous experience as a laborer or in construction is preferred but not required. On the job training will be provided.Ability to safely operate tools and equipment listed aboveCERTIFICATIONS & LICENSESValid Texas Class C Driver's License with clear driving recordNIMS Training obtained within 3 months of hireAbility to obtain Class B Commercial Driver's permit within 6 months, and Class B Commercial Driver's License within 1 year of hireKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to attain skills for proper use and care of gas and electric tools, equipment, methods, and materials used in public works streets and drainage utility projectsAbility to attain knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions required to perform tasks safelyBasic written and spoken English language skills and the ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructionsBasic math skills including ability to perform accurate measurementsBasic computer skillsDemonstrated ability to work as a team player and maintain effective work relationshipsAbility to respond appropriately to requests and inquiriesAbility to make sound decisions and effectively handle stressful situations in a professional mannerAbility to abide by all rules, regulations, policies, and proceduresAbility to safely perform all physical requirements of the job, including strenuous tasks under varying weather conditionsBenefitsThe City of Red Oak recognizes that we can not serve our customers without a dedicated workforce.
