Mainframe Systems Engineer

IBM Z/VM Environment AdministratorExperience: 10+Contract: Long TermOnly GC, USCKey Responsibilities• Install, configure, administer, and maintain IBM z/VM environments.• Provision and manage Linux on IBM Z (s390x) virtual servers.• Perform system upgrades, migrations, patching, and capacity planning.• Monitor system performance and optimize resource utilization.• Support high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.• Configure and maintain virtual networking, storage, and security components.• Troubleshoot operating system, virtualization, and infrastructure issues.• Implement automation for provisioning, monitoring, and system administration tasks.• Collaborate with application, database, storage, and network teams.• Develop and maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.• Participate in on-call support and production incident resolution.Required Skills & Experience• 5+ years of experience supporting IBM Mainframe environments.• Strong hands-on experience with:o z/VMo Linux on IBM Z (RHEL, SUSE, or Ubuntu for s390x)o IBM Z hardware platformso Virtual machine provisioning and administration• Experience with:o DIRMAINTo RACF or equivalent security administrationo TCP/IP networkingo Shared File System (SFS)o CMSo CP commands and system management• Strong Linux administration skills:o User managemento Storage managemento System tuningo Shell scriptingo Performance troubleshooting• Experience supporting virtualized enterprise workloads.Preferred Qualifications• Experience with:o IBM z16, z15, z14, or z13 platformso LinuxONE environmentso IBM Wave for z/VMo OpenShift on IBM Zo Kuberneteso Docker / Podman containerso Ansible automationo Git and DevOps tools• Familiarity with:o Db2o WebSphereo MQo CICS integrationo Hybrid cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, OCI)• Experience with security and compliance frameworks in financial services environments.Education• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.Desired Soft Skills• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.• Experience supporting large-scale banking, insurance, or government environments is highly preferred.Nice to Have• IBM Certified z/VM System Programmer• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)• SUSE Certified Administrator• Experience with Mainframe Modernization and Linux workload migration initiatives.
