Doug Aitken Workshop is seeking a Project Manager / Designer with a background in architecture, design, art production or a related field to manage the development and realization of international contemporary art, architecture and installation projects.

We are looking for someone who combines a strong design sensibility with the ability to manage complex projects from concept through fabrication and installation. Working from the artist’s creative direction, this person will be responsible for assigned projects, maintaining momentum, anticipating next steps and ensuring that work is executed at the highest level.

The ideal candidate is a resourceful and intuitive problem solver who can move fluidly between design, research, project management and fabrication.

Responsibilities / Experience Manage assigned projects from design development through fabrication and installation

Contribute to the design and development of artworks, installations and architectural projects

Develop designs, details, drawings, 3D models and presentation materials

Establish and maintain project schedules, priorities, budgets and deliverables

Research materials, fabrication methods, vendors and technical solutions

Coordinate and manage fabricators, engineers, architects, contractors and other consultants

Solicit and review bids and oversee external fabrication

Review prototypes, samples and fabrication for design intent and quality

Anticipate project needs, identify problems and independently drive solutions

Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced studio environment

Strong architectural or design background and highly developed aesthetic sensibility required. Experience with custom fabrication, design-build, contemporary art production or complex one-off projects is highly desirable.

Proficiency in Rhino and Adobe Creative Suite preferred.

Position based in Los Angeles. Compensation and schedule commensurate with experience and availability. The position could be part-time or full-time.
