About Lausanne

Lausanne Collegiate School is an independent, co-educational, college-preparatory day school for students in PreK through Grade 12, proudly representing 77+ countries within our vibrant community. Rooted in our core values of Knowledge, Truth, and Honor, Lausanne is committed to providing an exceptional educational experience supported by safe, well-maintained, and innovative facilities.

Position Summary

Lausanne Collegiate School is seeking a dependable, hardworking, and motivated individual to join our Facilities & Operations team as a Maintenance Technician / Trainee.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and is willing and eager to learn. Extensive maintenance experience is not required. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a willingness to develop new skills while working alongside experienced members of our team.

This position also supports Lausanne's transportation needs. Candidates must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be willing and able to obtain the required CDL as soon as possible following hire.

Following successful completion of the initial probationary period of six months, the employee must be willing to enroll in an approved maintenance-related trade or technical program, such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or another area aligned with the school's facilities needs. The goal is for the employee to develop a skilled trade while continuing to gain hands-on experience at Lausanne. Lausanne will provide financial assistance in the amount of half the cost of the approved training program.

Flexibility to drive students and faculty to school-related events and trips, including occasional overnight and multi-day travel, is required.

  • Assist with general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of school buildings, grounds, and facilities.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks involving painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, furniture, equipment, and other campus needs based on training and experience.
  • Work alongside experienced team members to learn new maintenance and facilities skills.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and identify and report safety or maintenance concerns.
  • Support setup and breakdown for school events, meetings, and athletic activities.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and materials throughout campus.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
  • Safely operate school vehicles to transport students, faculty, and staff to athletic events, field trips, class trips, and other school-sponsored activities.
  • Conduct required vehicle inspections and follow all school and applicable transportation safety requirements.
  • Participate in occasional evening, weekend and overnight and multi-day student trips as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Facilities & Operations team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Current CDL or willingness and ability to obtain the required CDL promptly after hire.
  • Willingness to pursue and successfully complete an approved trade or technical training program following the probationary period.
  • Previous maintenance, facilities, construction, mechanical, or related experience is helpful but not required.
  • Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Professional and respectful when interacting with students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule and participate in occasional overnight and multi-day trips.
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks, driving-record reviews, and other employment requirements.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position requiring the ability to stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, reach, and climb stairs or ladders; and safely lift and move equipment, furniture, and materials associated with general maintenance work. Duties may be performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.

While most responsibilities will occur during the regular workweek, schedule flexibility is an essential part of this position. Occasional early mornings, evenings, weekends, and overnight travel may be required based on school events, transportation needs, and student trips.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate does not need to know how to fix everything on day one. We are looking for someone who shows up, works hard, wants to learn, takes pride in doing a job well, and is willing to help wherever needed. Lausanne is willing to invest in and train the right individual who demonstrates dependability, initiative, and a genuine desire to develop a skilled trade and grow professionally as part of the Lausanne team.
