Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and delivery ownership for teams developing and operating scalable, cloud-native applications on AWS. The role will drive architecture decisions, engineering best practices, and technical excellence across microservices, cloud infrastructure, observability, CI/CD, and search platforms while supporting the delivery of business-critical solutions. The position is remote, with preference for candidates located near Chicago, IL due to occasional travel requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership for software engineering teams delivering enterprise applications.
• Define and drive architectural standards, best practices, and technology strategy.
• Lead AWS cloud adoption, modernization, and cloud-native development initiatives.
• Design and oversee scalable, secure, resilient, and high-performance solutions.
• Guide development of Spring Boot microservices and distributed systems.
• Champion DevOps, CI/CD automation, Infrastructure as Code, and observability practices.
• Promote AI-assisted development tools and engineering productivity initiatives.
• Support production operations, incident management, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Mentor and coach engineers to strengthen technical capabilities and technical growth.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, Platform Teams, and business stakeholders to align technology solutions with organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of experience in a technical lead, engineering lead, or similar leadership capacity.
• Proven experience delivering cloud-native applications in enterprise environments.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, including ECS/Fargate, IAM, Application Load Balancer (ALB), RDS, CloudWatch, and Secrets Manager.
• Experience with cloud architecture and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with Docker, GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and monitoring.
• Experience with event-driven architecture, API integration, and performance optimization.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools.
• Strong technical leadership, stakeholder management, communication, mentoring, coaching, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong strategic problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making, conflict resolution, adaptability, ownership, and accountability skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting large-scale cloud modernization initiatives.
• Experience working with enterprise AWS platforms and mission-critical applications.
• Experience mentoring engineering teams and driving engineering excellence.
• Ability to support occasional travel based on business needs.
