Job Description

Software EngineerWe are seeking a talented and experienced Systems Engineer to join our Enabling Technologies group, focused on the design, integration, and optimization of advanced surgical navigation, and visualization systems. This role supports the development of software- and hardware-integrated solutions for orthopedic procedures, with a strong emphasis on system-level architecture, performance, and reliability.The Systems Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams including software, hardware, clinical research, and product management to define system requirements and ensure seamless integration of components across the surgical ecosystem. The ideal candidate is experienced in complex system design, thrives in a collaborative environment, and is passionate about developing technologies that improve surgical precision and patient outcomes.Key responsibilities include defining, designing, and supporting system-level architecture for surgical navigation and visualization platforms, translating clinical and product requirements into detailed system specifications and technical requirements, collaborating with software, hardware, and clinical teams to ensure integration of optical navigation technologies and surgical systems, supporting development and optimization of real-time surgical visualization and augmented reality capabilities, ensuring system performance, reliability, and safety across hardware and software components, participating in verification and validation activities with V&V teams to ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements, identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving system-level issues across integrated hardware/software environments, documenting system architecture, requirements, interfaces, and verification plans in accordance with design control processes, supporting risk management activities, including system hazard analysis and mitigation strategies, contributing to design reviews and cross-functional technical discussions to ensure alignment on system requirements and implementation, and supporting lifecycle management of existing systems and continuous improvement of platform architecture.The role supports development of integrated surgical navigation and visualization systems for orthopedic procedures, works across software, hardware, clinical, quality, and regulatory teams, is responsible for system-level requirements, integration, and performance across complex medical platforms, and contributes to both new product development and sustaining engineering activities.Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field, 3+ years of experience in systems engineering, software engineering, or complex product development, experience with software development using C# and Unity preferred, experience integrating software with physical hardware systems, strong understanding of optical navigation systems and real-time visualization technologies, experience with SDLC, version control systems, and Agile development methodologies, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Desired qualifications include experience in medical device systems engineering or regulated environments, experience with robotic systems or surgical navigation platforms, understanding of anatomy and biomechanics in orthopedic applications, familiarity with cloud technologies, web services, and REST APIs, experience with system risk management and design control processes, and background in augmented reality or immersive visualization systems.Core competencies include system thinking, technical leadership, collaboration, problem solving, communication, and execution & accountability.Working conditions include primarily office or laboratory-based environment, occasional travel to manufacturing sites, clinical validation sites, and surgeon workshops, and hands-on interaction with surgical instruments, navigation hardware, and integrated testing environments.Who we're looking for: passionate about technology, highly collaborative, detail-oriented, problem solver, adaptable, and quality-focused.
