Owning the storage and query engine for a data lake, the full-time Backend Engineer for Distributed Systems will manage ingestion pipelines, indexing, and multi-tenant isolation while ensuring performance and correctness in a remote environment. Key responsibilities Oversee the storage layer of the observability data lake, including ingestion pipelines and indexing Enhance the query engine through distributed planning, execution, and cost model optimization Design encodings and sketches to maintain affordability of millions of series while ensuring correctness and observability Required qualifications Deep, hands-on experience with distributed data systems such as databases or query engines Fluency in consensus, replication, partitioning, and consistency models Proficiency in Go or Java at a production level Experience with performance profiling and understanding of system internals Willingness to be on-call for the systems you build and operate
