Job Summary The IDEA Lab at RRCC is seeking an IDEA Lab Assistant to assist with managing and coordinating projects and programs for the IDEA Lab. The IDEA Lab is a makerspace on the Lakewood campus where faculty and students innovate, create, and build community. IDEA Lab Assistants will support RRCC students in the IDEA Lab with creating, designing, and building class prototypes and design projects. IDEA Lab Assistants are responsible for monitoring check-in/check-out procedures of the lab, leading tours of the IDEA Lab to visitors, and helping ensure that safety protocols are maintained. Additionally, IDEA Lab Assistants will organize and lead projects within the RRCC community as assigned to encourage multidisciplinary engagement with the IDEA Lab.

This position reports to the Director of Innovation and Engagement. The work schedule for this position is within Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, at the Lakewood Campus. May require hours outside of normal work schedule.

This is a student employee position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session and up to 28 hours each week during academic breaks or breaks between terms while an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.

Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications

For work study employment:

Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.

Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.

For student hourly employment:

Must be an RRCC student and enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours).

Other Required Qualifications Experience in one of the following areas:

AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks

3-D printing

Woodworking

Laser cutting

Programming for Arduinos and/or Raspberry Pi's

Virtual reality/augmented reality

Responsibilities Strong interest in promoting STEM education and innovative opportunities within the RRCC community.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated organizational skills: reliable, punctual, strong work ethic and follow-through.

Ability to serve as a positive role model for students and provide excellent customer service to students and IDEA Lab guests.

Additional Information/Benefits Physical & Cognitive Demands The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.

Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files, equipment and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

This position operates routinely uses a computer and standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.

The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
