Job Description

This role focuses on designing, documenting, and ensuring the quality of industrial control systems and electrical assemblies. You will independently create complete, build-ready electrical drawing packages from engineering specifications, existing equipment, or field-installed systems with minimal guidance. The position combines electrical drafting, control panel design, and documentation of industrial automation systems, requiring strong technical judgment and adherence to internal and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Create complete electrical drawing packages for industrial control panels and electrical systems from engineer specifications, existing equipment, and field-installed systems.
• Produce detailed electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, point-to-point drawings, loop diagrams, single-line diagrams, and P&IDs.
• Develop control panel documentation from engineering specifications with minimal oversight, ensuring build-ready accuracy.
• Interpret existing electrical systems and reverse engineer drawings when documentation is incomplete or unavailable.
• Generate accurate hardware layouts and identify electrical components based on physical equipment, manufacturer documentation, and design requirements.
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), part numbering structures, and associated design documentation.
• Perform drawing quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to electrical drafting and documentation standards.
• Review, update, and incorporate redlined drawings and engineering changes into current documentation sets.
• Support manufacturing and assembly teams by producing manufacturing-ready documentation packages that clearly guide panel build and installation.
• Collaborate closely with controls engineers and electrical engineers to ensure drawings accurately reflect system functionality, wiring practices, and installation requirements.
• Maintain consistency across all drawing packages, documentation standards, and revision control processes.
• Apply knowledge of UL508A, NFPA 70, NEC, and other applicable electrical standards when designing and documenting control panels and electrical systems.
• Support PLC-based control systems and industrial automation equipment through accurate documentation of I/O, power distribution, and control devices.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical drafting, electrical design, or control panel design.
• Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical for creating and managing electrical drawing packages.
• Demonstrated experience creating complete electrical drawing packages from scratch with minimal direction.
• Hands-on experience designing and documenting industrial control panels and related electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical schematics, panel hardware layouts, point-to-point wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, single-line diagrams, and P&IDs.
• Ability to identify electrical components, symbols, terminal connections, relays, PLC I/O, power distribution components, and control devices within drawings and physical systems.
• Experience creating manufacturing-ready documentation packages that support panel fabrication and installation.
• Strong knowledge of electrical drafting standards, documentation practices, and revision control processes.
• Experience performing quality control checks for electrical drawings and documentation packages.
• Background in controls engineering, automation, robotics, industrial equipment, manufacturing, energy, oil & gas, or related industries.
• Experience supporting PLC-based control systems and industrial automation equipment.
• Previous experience creating drawings directly from existing control panels or field-installed systems.
• Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Background with significant control panel design and documentation experience.
• Familiarity with UL508A, NFPA 70, NEC, or other applicable electrical standards.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced product development or startup environments.

• Comfort collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including controls engineers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing personnel.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining consistency across documentation and drawing standards.
• Effective communication skills for clarifying requirements and resolving design issues with engineering and production teams.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, drawing packages, and revision histories simultaneously.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role with a typical schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with flexibility for overtime as needed to meet project deadlines. You will work in a fast-paced, product development environment with a fun, startup-style culture, where you can contribute to a growing organization in its earlier phases. The workplace supports collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams and emphasizes high-quality documentation and consistent standards. Paid time off is provided for a shutdown week from December 26th to 31st, and 10 paid holidays are available, including New Years Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and a Winter Break Holiday utilizing 40 hours of billable PTO.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, TX.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Austin,TX.
