Information Technology Manager

Job Description

Information Technology ManagerSALARY: $127,017 per year (Per Contract)The following documents must be complete and current for application to be considered for this position:Online ApplicationLetter of InterestResumeCopy of Valid Certification and/or LicenseTranscripts (if applicable)Three Current Letters of RecommendationLetter of interest should include background informationJOB # 256QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's Degree in information systems, computer science, business administration, or Master's degree in Educational Technology or similar field.Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in information systems analyst and deployment, network administration, hardware and network infrastructure design and implementation.At least three years as a supervisor, project manager or operating manager, or any combination of education and experience which provides a demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the position.Knowledge of PowerSchool, MUNIS, SQL, Oracle, Access, Object Reporting, Google Apps, Google Drive, Apple iPad MDM, Windows Server, and other school/education technology resources strongly preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Critical thinking skills and ability to evaluate and prioritize critical systems and work flow processes.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.REPORTS TO: Chief Information OfficerSUPERVISES: Information Technology StaffJOB GOAL: To plan, coordinate, direct and maintain the information systems technology for the East Hartford Public Schools.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Consults with CIO and the Deputy and/or Assistant Superintendents to determine management information needs and integration of technology in an education setting.Provides leadership and direction in the development of the District's technology plan (short and long-term) and provides technical support to school district departments.Hires, supervises, and evaluates Network Administrator, Applications Support Specialists, Network Technicians, and other IT staff.Co-chairs the District technology subcommittee and participates on any committee involving IT matters.Oversees the information technology component (technical issues, account set-up, registration, report cards, progress reports, transcripts, scheduling, etc.) of PowerSchool.Researches, evaluates and makes recommendations for upgrading, repair and maintenance of existing systems including hardware and software.Designs, develops and implements new systems to accommodate the school district's information technology needs including hardware and software.Oversees the acquisition of compatible computer hardware, software, and applications.Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources.Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments and conducts department staff meetings.Trains, motivates and evaluates all information technology staff.Plans and manages a Local Area Network (LAN) for the East Hartford Public Schools.Coordinates training classes and programs for school district employees as needed.Maintains knowledge of state of the art hardware, software, and personal computer network design, development, integration and maintenance, as well as E-mail, interactive applications and geographic information systems.Prepares the annual division operational and capital budget, presents and defends budget requests.Installs and tests new software products.Develops and maintains an industry-standard data backup protocol and ensures integrity of the District's data.Maintains awareness of industry trends in cyber-security and ensures that District data is adequately protected from emerging threats.Prepares project reports and informs Business Services Director of project status and problems.Establishes criteria for the drafting of requests for proposals (RFP's) for the school district's IT needs.Places and follows-up on service calls to outside hardware/software support vendors to assure prompt and appropriate repair of hardware and software.Assures the effectiveness and efficient use of personnel, materials, facilities, time and budgeted funds for hardware and/or software.Assists Performance Office with oversight and management of online staff evaluation platform.Assists Performance Office with State reporting requirements/submissions.Assumes such other functions as may be determined by Director of Business Services and/or Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve months. Represented by Local 818.EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy for non-certified staff.
