Senior Software Engineer, BackendArcher is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. This role spans edge computing and cloud infrastructure, serving as a critical link between physical hardware and backend services. You may write software that runs on embedded devices one day and scalable cloud services the next, requiring both breadth across systems and the ability to dive deep when needed.This role is open to engineers at all experience levels who demonstrate curiosity, adaptability, and a builder's mindset.ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain software systems that span edge devices and cloud infrastructureDevelop and support software running on Raspberry Pi and similar embedded environmentsBuild scalable backend services using Python on AWSEnsure reliable data flow and system integration between hardware and cloud servicesMonitor system performance and troubleshoot production issues across hardware and software boundariesWrite clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following engineering best practicesAdapt to changing priorities by contributing across software development, infrastructure, and hardware testing as neededQualificationsRequired:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related fieldStrong proficiency in PythonExperience building or managing applications on AWSProven problem-solving skills and the ability to debug complex, cross-disciplinary systemsExperience Level:Open to New Graduate, Junior, and Senior candidatesDemonstrated hands-on experience through projects, internships, or professional work is valued over years of tenurePreferred QualificationsExperience with edge computing or embedded systems (Raspberry Pi, GPIO, Sensors)Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as TerraformExperience working with SQL and/or NoSQL databasesKnowledge of containerization technologies such as DockerWillingness to learn and work with additional languages or frameworks as needed (e.g., Rust)Please note that this job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position and does not include an exhaustive list of responsibilities and qualifications.At Archer we aim to attract, retain, and motivate talent that possess the skills and leadership necessary to grow our business.
