Staff Software Engineer Technical Lead

Job Description

The Staff Software Development Engineer will serve as a senior technical leader supporting the Transformation program, with primary responsibility for coordinating the design, modernization, and delivery of strategic technology initiatives. This role will work closely with leadership across Product, Architecture, Engineering, Operations, and vendor teams to define technical strategy, drive execution, and ensure successful delivery of transformational business capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with strong technical leadership skills and the ability to influence outcomes across multiple teams. This individual will be responsible for guiding solution architecture, mentoring engineers, removing technical roadblocks, and ensuring that modernization efforts align with broader enterprise technology strategies.

Primary Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

· Serve as technical lead for strategic Meritain Transformation initiatives, including application modernization, integration modernization, data platform evolution, and digital enablement efforts.

· Collaborate on architecture, engineering standards, development approaches, and technical roadmaps.

· Participate in architecture reviews and design decisions across multiple engineering teams.

· Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, cloud-native architectures, automation, DevOps, and AI-assisted development capabilities.

· Identify and mitigate technical risks and dependencies across programs.

Solution Delivery

· Lead delivery of complex, cross-functional technology initiatives from design through implementation.

· Partner with Product Managers, Business SMEs, Solution Architects, and Engineering teams to translate business objectives into scalable technology solutions.

· Oversee technical planning, estimation, and execution activities.

· Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, scalability, resiliency, and performance requirements.

· Support vendor selection, evaluation, and technology integration activities as needed.

Skills and Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years as a technical lead for complex enterprise initiatives.

• Proven experience leading modernization and transformation programs.

• Strong experience designing and implementing distributed enterprise applications.

• Demonstrated success delivering large-scale, mission-critical solutions.

Technical Qualifications (experience in several of the following areas):

• Java, Spring Boot, .NET, C#, Visual Studio

• API design and integration patterns

• Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

• Event-driven architecture and messaging technologies

• Relational and NoSQL databases

• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

• Application modernization and legacy transformation

• Security and compliance controls in regulated environments

• AI-assisted software development tools and practices

• Agile and SAFe delivery methodologies
