Software Engineer

Job Description

Software EngineerBrain-related illness is one of the last great frontiers in medicine, not because the brain is unknowable, but because it has been inaccessible. Paradromics is building a brain-computer interface (BCI) platform that records brain activity at the highest possible resolution: the individual neuron. AI algorithms then decode this massive amount of brain-data, enabling the seamless translation of thought into treatments. Our first clinical application, the Connexus ® BCI, will help people who are unable to speak, due to ALS, spinal cord injuries, and stroke, to communicate independently through digital devices. However, the capabilities of our BCI platform go far beyond our first application. With the brain in direct communication with digital devices, we can leverage technology to transform how we treat conditions ranging from sensory and motor deficits to untreatable mental illness. The RoleAs a Software Engineer at Paradromics, you'll work closely with our team of Scientists and Engineers to develop software that enables our clinical applications. You will help design software to restore communication ability for our BCI users, enabling successful clinical studies of the Connexus System.ResponsibilitiesDevelop data curation strategies for user interaction and BCI dataRealize BCI decoding algorithms as performant softwareEvaluate software with simulated and real neural data, as well as with our BCI hardware in the loopParticipate in code reviews and contribute to the development of new features and toolsWork closely with our engineering, neuroscience, and quality teams to identify and capture needs and requirementsRegularly travel between our Austin and Oakland officesRequired EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent real world experience3+ years of professional experience relevant to this roleRequired QualificationsHighly proficient in PythonExperience with Rust, C++, or CFamiliarity with machine learning concepts and experience collaborating with machine learning practitionersDemonstrated prior professional experience with multiple programming languagesPreferred QualificationsWorking knowledge of operating systems concepts and performant softwareFamiliarity with signal processing / time series data processing concepts and algorithms.Experience working on projects involving quality management systems, such as medical device development, aviation, finance, defenseParadromics is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
