Software Engineer - Database Developer

Location: Albuquerque, NM (On-site) | Job Type: Contract to Hire

About the Role

Responsibilities

- Architect, design, develop, and test robust data systems for massive throughput and real-time operations

- Redesign and mature reference programs for operational rigor and mission-critical reliability

- Lead the implementation of petabyte-scale database solutions supporting continuous data accumulation

- Integrate systems for mission planning, real-time visualization, and 24/7 operations

- Partner with stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, high-performance models

- Conduct system-level risk analyses and proactively identify improvement opportunities

- Champion code reviews to ensure top-notch standards and requirement alignment

- Research and implement emerging software technologies, frameworks, and best practices

Required Skills and Experience

- Minimum 3 years' experience with large Database Management Systems (DBMS)

- Proficient in SQL and database design for high-throughput, mission-critical environments

- Demonstrated success transitioning systems from prototype to operations

- Strong foundational Computer Science knowledge, object-oriented design, and software patterns

- Experience with ETL processes and data backup/recovery techniques

- Bachelor's degree or higher (Computer Science or related field)

- Adaptable and comfortable working in ambiguous, early-phase architectural settings

Preferred Skills

- Proficiency in Java, C++, Python, and JS frameworks (REACT, jQuery UI, Open Layers)

- Familiarity with Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, OpenAPI

- Experience with Maven, Gradle, Git, Jenkins for dependency management and automation

- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure)

- Knowledge of TDD, Agile, CI/CD methodologies

- Expertise in data system optimization, performance tuning, and indexing

- Background in ground-to-space or space-to-ground systems engineering
