We're building the future of social commerce -- where community, conversation, and commerce converge.We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer to build and scale Nectar's core product experiences and platform. You'll work across the full stack from the backend infrastructure that ingests and processes large volumes of social data, to the product interfaces that help brands understand, manage, and respond to social conversations using AI. This role combines deep engineering with technical leadership. Whether you lean more toward backend systems or product/frontend, you'll shape architectural decisions, raise the quality bar across the codebase, and help establish strong engineering practices as the team and platform scale. Our tech stack is TypeScript, React, Shadcn, Zustand, AWS, Pulumi, Postgres, ClickHouse, and Turbopuffer. We use AI tools thoughtfully in our day-to-day work – Cursor, Claude Code, Graphite, and Granola.What You'll Be DoingBackend & Data InfrastructureDesign and build backend systems that ingest and process large volumes of social data from platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, and LinkedInDevelop resilient integrations with third-party APIs and optimize the infrastructure that powers our AI workloadsImprove reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across our backend and data pipelines as the platform scalesEstablish operational best practices including monitoring, incident response, and on-call cultureProduct & FrontendBuild AI-powered product experiences such as conversation inboxes, AI-suggested replies, and summarization of social conversations into actionable insightsImprove shared components, design systems, and frontend architecture to enable faster and higher-quality product developmentOptimize performance and reliability across the application as it scales to support thousands of daily usersCollaborate closely with product and design teams to deliver intuitive workflows for brand and marketing teamsTechnical LeadershipWrite architecture documents and guide infrastructure, tooling, and frontend decisions across the engineering teamReview technical designs and code from other engineers - providing feedback that raises the quality bar across the teamMentor engineers and contribute to building strong engineering culture and development practicesWhat We're Looking ForStrong engineering experience designing, building, and operating production systems — backend, frontend, or full-stackDeep understanding of system design, distributed systems, and scalable architectureExperience building reliable data pipelines on top of external APIs, or building complex, data-rich web applications using ReactStrong user empathy and product intuition when designing and building featuresExperience mentoring engineers and shaping engineering cultureCuriosity about how AI is changing software development and interest in AI-assisted engineering workflowsComfort operating in a fast-moving startup environment with high ownership and end-to-end responsibilityBonus PointsExperience working with high-scale data pipelines or real-time data processing systemsExperience building AI-powered user interfaces or LLM-integrated product featuresExperience building analytics dashboards or data-heavy interfacesExperience integrating AI or machine learning systems into production environmentsPrevious experience working at an early-stage or rapidly scaling startupWhat We OfferCompetitive compensation and early equityHealth, vision, and dental benefits + 401(k) matchHybrid work schedule (4 days in office) with 3 flex remote days per quarter (available after 3 months)Comprehensive stipends: $1,000/month housing stipend for living near the office, $50/month mobile stipend, $50/month internet stipend for remote employees, and commuter benefits (train stipend or Palo Alto parking permit reimbursement)Free lunch in the heart of University Ave. in Palo Alto
