Job Description

Purpose of Position

The Construction Inspector includes providing construction inspection support in the management and construction of infrastructures. This position works in the office with engineers as well as field construction supervisors and subcontractors. Construction Inspectors support the project management process by performing tasks such as limited construction management and administration, materials inspection and engineering, construction survey, and owner representation.

Essential Functions

Inspect work performed by Contractors and Subcontractors on the job site

Observing work that is being performed

Measure quantities of work performed

Enter quantities into bi-weekly estimate for Contractor payment

File Daily Reports in Field Book or Field Manager

Attend weekly construction meetings

Document work performed by Contractor with regards to plans & specifications

Assist in the collection of materials for testing

Support the Construction Management Team as needed

Physical Demands of Position

While performing the duties of this position the employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands and fingers. The employee occasionally must reach above and below shoulder level to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform some physical labor.

Environmental/Working Conditions This position may split his/her time between an administrative office and working in the field. It may require field work up to 100% of the time based on project needs.

Equipment Used Telephone, Printer/Copier, Fax, Personal Computer with peripherals, calculator, GPS Survey Equipment, Robotic Total Station, Design Software (Civil 3D, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit)

Job Specifications

Associates Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Survey, or equivalent experience

Prefer someone with 1-3 years of experience in this role.

1-3 years’ experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Previous field experience including construction projects is preferred.

Prefer experience in the current technique and application of theories, precepts, and practices of Land Surveying.

Ability to provide survey field support as needed.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, and the ability to work long hours while maintaining concentration.

Must have good interpersonal, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
