Software Engineer – Clinical ApplicationsThis Software Engineer role focuses on developing foundational software components that support advanced clinical applications in the areas of Total Hip and Total Knee surgery. You will research, analyze, design, implement, test, and maintain shared and application-specific software modules that integrate into pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative clinical architectures. The position emphasizes robust, efficient, and well-documented C++ and Qt-based solutions in a Linux environment, with a strong focus on 3D geometry and image processing algorithms. This is an individual contributor role that requires sound professional judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, debug, and implement software components for clinical applications, including foundational tools, utilities, and operating system-level modules.Develop source code for shared biomechanics and surgical planning components that integrate seamlessly into pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative clinical application architectures.Conduct research and analysis to inform the design and implementation of software components used in Total Hip and Total Knee surgery applications.Participate fully in the software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and deployment of software components.Perform code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to established standards and best practices.Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for software components, including design specifications, implementation details, and user-facing technical documentation where needed.Collaborate in integration and system-level testing to ensure that components function correctly within complex clinical application architectures.Manage and resolve software defects by investigating issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective fixes.Use code analysis tools and techniques to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability of software components.Ensure that all developed components are feature complete and meet defined requirements and design specifications.Determine systems software design requirements and contribute to architectural decisions for clinical software platforms.Implement and monitor system improvements to increase efficiency, reliability, and usability of clinical applications.Contribute to the generation and refinement of systems software engineering policies, standards, and procedures.Apply professional expertise and sound judgment in day-to-day work, operating independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.Use established procedures and concepts from the software engineering discipline to make evaluative judgments based on factual information and detailed analysis.Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 or more years of professional software engineering experience.Strong proficiency in C++ with hands-on experience developing production-quality software.Solid experience working with Qt in a Linux environment.Experience working with 3D geometry and image processing algorithms, including complex 3D calculations.Proficiency with integrated development environments (IDEs) and build systems, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.Experience using revision control systems as part of a modern software development workflow.Familiarity with CI/CD development practices and integrating code into automated build and test pipelines.Familiarity with unit testing and incorporating automated tests into the development workflow.Ability to apply established software engineering procedures and concepts to solve technical problems.Strong attention to detail and the ability to make evaluative judgments based on analysis of factual information.University degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience developing surgical planning systems or other medical imaging or clinical software applications.Experience working on complex systems that integrate hardware, imaging, or robotics in a clinical or highly regulated environment.Interest in healthcare technology and in building software that directly impacts patient outcomes and clinical workflows.Comfort working independently as an individual contributor while collaborating within a broader engineering and product organization.Motivation to operate in a high-performance environment with significant ownership and responsibility.Work EnvironmentYou will work in a technology-driven environment that invests heavily in research and development across robotics, surgical technologies, orthopaedics, neurotechnology, and medical devices.
