Principal Hardware Engineer

Principal Hardware Engineer - Industrial Power/BESS/UPS Systems - Portland, OR

I’m partnering with a growing energy storage company looking to add a Principal Hardware Engineer (Hardware Engineer V) to their engineering team.

This is a highly hands-on role for an experienced electrical/power electronic engineer who has taken complex hardware from early architecture through design, debugging, validation, and ultimately production. You’ll work on high-power electrical systems and power electronics used in industrial applications, with ownership across both the circuit-board and system level.

What You’ll Be Doing

Own portions of the electrical architecture from requirements through released hardware

Design and develop analog, digital, embedded, and power-electronics circuitry

Perform schematic capture, circuit analysis/simulation, component selection, and design documentation

Develop and debug hardware involving microcontrollers and embedded interfaces

Lead or contribute heavily to design reviews, verification, and validation activities

Help establish production test and acceptance strategies as new products move into manufacturing

What We’re Looking For

BS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering (Advanced degree preferred), or a closely related discipline

Roughly 10+ years of hardware development experience

Strong background in power electronics and board-level circuit design

Experience designing/debugging microcontroller-based hardware

Comfortable working with high voltage systems, (600 VDC range)

Experience with communication buses/interfaces such as CAN and I²C

Exposure to EMC and product-safety requirements

Nice to Have

Experience with industrial power systems, energy storage, UPS hardware, or adjacent high-power equipment

Prior experience serving as a technical lead or mentoring other engineers

Experience working in an environment where engineering, testing, and manufacturing sit closely together
