Job Description

SHR Talent is partnering with a growing, multi-state healthcare organization in Nashville, TN in its search for a Controller . This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a technically strong accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on, solving complex accounting issues, and helping build scalable processes within an evolving organization.

The ideal candidate will be a true owner of the general ledger and comfortable operating at both the strategic and detailed levels. This individual should be able to dig into journal entries, understand and explain accounting activity, identify issues, and determine the best path forward. The Controller will report directly to senior accounting leadership and play an important role in strengthening the organization's accounting and financial reporting infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Own and oversee general ledger accounting across a complex, multi-entity organization

Lead month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting

Review, prepare, and analyze journal entries, account reconciliations, and adjusting entries

Research and resolve complex accounting issues while clearly communicating the rationale behind accounting treatments

Evaluate and improve the chart of accounts to better support management and financial reporting needs

Establish, document, and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

Support accounting for acquisitions, transactions, integrations, and other ad hoc initiatives

Partner with senior accounting and finance leadership to improve reporting processes and scalability

Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and leverage ERP functionality

Support the continued integration of newly acquired businesses and entities

Serve as a technical accounting resource to the broader finance and accounting organization

Assist with audit requirements and other external reporting needs as appropriate

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Significant progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Controller or comparable leadership role

Strong technical accounting foundation with demonstrated general ledger expertise

Experience working within a multi-entity accounting environment

Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and adjusting entries

Experience with ERP systems; Sage Intacct experience is preferred but not required

Ability to evaluate and redesign accounting processes and chart-of-accounts structures

Strong understanding of internal controls and financial reporting

Experience in a high-growth, acquisitive, or rapidly changing organization is highly desirable

Healthcare experience, including exposure to value-based care or provider compensation models, is a plus but not required

Public accounting experience is beneficial but not required

CPA is preferred but not required
