Construction Coordinator – Automotive Manufacturing

Location: San Antonio, TX – Onsite

Requisition: 1509262

Overtime: Approximately 30%

Travel: Approximately 10%

Position Summary

K&K is seeking an experienced Construction Coordinator to support major facility and construction projects within an automotive manufacturing environment in San Antonio, TX.

This is a hands-on, field-focused position responsible for coordinating general contractors, subcontractors, engineering firms, testing agencies, schedules, safety, costs, and construction activities from project execution through commissioning and closeout.

The ideal candidate has at least 5 years of industrial construction experience and is comfortable working directly in the field managing contractors, resolving construction issues, maintaining project schedules, and coordinating between the owner, contractors, and A/E teams.

Key Responsibilities

Construction & Contractor Management

Manage day-to-day field activities of general contractors and subcontractors.

Coordinate construction activities to maintain project schedules and milestones.

Conduct onsite inspections to verify work is being completed according to plans and specifications.

Coordinate contractors, subcontractors, testing agencies, engineering teams, and plant stakeholders.

Identify potential schedule or construction issues and implement countermeasures to keep projects on track.

Safety

Ensure contractor compliance with construction safety requirements.

Promote and maintain an incident-free project environment.

Monitor field activities for adherence to established safety standards and procedures.

Cost & Schedule

Support overall project budgets, schedules, and construction milestones.

Prepare daily field status reports for management.

Review contractor change orders and validate scope and associated costs.

Coordinate contract changes and support owner approval processes.

Support cost estimating and project scheduling activities.

Construction Documentation

Coordinate between the owner, general contractor, subcontractors, and A/E firms.

Review and process:

Requests for Information (RFIs)

Shop drawings

Change orders

Maintain accurate documentation throughout project execution.

Meetings & Reporting

Participate in weekly general contractor and project meetings.

Prepare meeting minutes and maintain action-item lists.

Present project status, risks, schedule concerns, and countermeasures to project stakeholders and management.

Support commissioning and startup activities.

Coordinate completion of construction punch-list items.

Review and coordinate as-built documentation.

Coordinate Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.

Support training and turnover activities for user groups and support departments.

Complete and coordinate required acceptance testing procedures.

Ensure projects are properly documented and closed out.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of construction project management, construction coordination, superintendent, or A/E project management experience.

Experience managing general contractors and subcontractors in the field .

Industrial or manufacturing construction experience.

Strong knowledge of construction processes, building materials, schedules, and project documentation.

Experience with cost estimating and construction scheduling.

Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage multiple contractors, priorities, and project activities simultaneously.

Education / Experience

Candidates should meet one of the following:

Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field

OR

Skilled-trades background with significant superintendent, supervisory, or construction project management experience .

Preferred Experience

Automotive manufacturing construction experience.

Assembly plant and/or powertrain manufacturing experience.

Experience managing construction inside an active manufacturing facility.

Experience with commissioning, startup, acceptance testing, and project closeout.

Software Experience

Experience with some or all of the following is preferred:

Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Microsoft Project

Autodesk Build

BuildingConnected

AutoCAD

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will be a field-oriented construction professional who can confidently manage contractors, understand what is happening onsite, anticipate construction issues, communicate effectively with management, and drive projects safely from construction through commissioning and final closeout.

Experienced Construction Superintendents and Project Managers with strong industrial or automotive backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
