OVERVIEW

Controller

Location: Hybrid

At Alera Group, our Philadelphia team helps businesses protect their assets, manage risk, and plan accuracy.

The Controller is a key part of the local finance team responsible for the timely and accurate recording of the financial performance of the Alera Philadelphia office. Financial information reports are based on key performance indicators that are managed at the local agency and corporate level. This position includes weekly interactions with the Alera Group Accounting team at the corporate, regional and agency level to ensure accurate financial information is being conveyed timely. Success in the position is defined as leveraging procedures and communications with internal teams to generate and provide timely financial information so firm leadership can make informed business decisions as well as making the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.

RESPONSIBILITIES

What You'll Do

Client Partnership & Risk Strategy

Partner with agency and corporate leadership to provide meaningful financial insights and support business decision-making

Oversee client compensation reporting and ensure alignment with service agreements

Collaborate with stakeholders to identify financial risks and opportunities

Operational Excellence

Lead the accounting team and oversee daily financial operations

Manage the month-end close process, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting

Oversee billing, accounts payable, commission processing, and expense management activities

Drive process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and reporting capabilities

Strategic Contribution

Analyze financial and operating results to support growth and profitability objectives

Develop forecasts and financial models to support business planning

Partner with leadership on revenue projections, compensation planning, budgeting, and operational initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

What You Bring

Required

5+ years of accounting and finance leadership experience

3+ years of experience in a Controller or comparable leadership role

Experience in the insurance, property and casualty and/or employee benefits, or professional services industry

Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting principles

Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field

Preferred

Experience with Applied EPIC and/or Benefit Point

Compensation:

Salary range: $125,000 – $150,000 per year
