Software Engineer In Test – Hardware ValidationLocation: Austin, TX (onsite) Job Type: Full-Time Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 per yearWe are seeking an experienced Software Engineer in Test (SDET) – Hardware Validation to develop and maintain test software for hardware validation environments. The ideal candidate will have strong programming skills in Swift and/or Python, solid object-oriented programming fundamentals, and hands-on experience troubleshooting issues across software and hardware layers. This role requires a strong willingness to work hands-on in a hardware lab, including daily interaction with test racks, harnesses, bench equipment, and validation systems. Experience using AI/LLM tools for debugging and log analysis is also highly desirable.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop, maintain, and enhance Swift/Python test software for hardware validation harnesses.Apply OOP principles, design patterns, and clean coding practices to test software development.Use AI/LLM tools such as Claude to accelerate debugging, log analysis, failure diagnosis, and test scenario generation.Reproduce, isolate, troubleshoot, and document failures across hardware and software interaction layers.Set up, configure, and maintain hardware test harnesses, test racks, and laboratory equipment.Execute validation tests and analyze test failures to identify potential hardware, firmware, or software issues.Use command-line tools for scripting, process inspection, and test/toolchain execution.Create detailed bug reports and clearly communicate technical findings to engineering teams.Maintain test plans, validation documentation, and troubleshooting procedures.Develop new test scenarios and propose improved hardware validation approaches.Collaborate with software, hardware, firmware, and other engineering teams to resolve validation issues.Must-Have Skills8–10 years of relevant software testing/engineering experience.Strong programming experience with Swift and/or Python.Solid Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) knowledge.Strong understanding of design patterns and clean code practices.Experience using AI/LLM tools for active debugging, particularly log analysis and failure diagnosis.Willingness to work hands-on in a hardware lab on a daily basis.Experience working with test racks, hardware harnesses, and bench equipment.Strong systematic troubleshooting skills across software and hardware interaction layers.Proficiency with command-line tools, scripting, process inspection, and toolchain execution.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.Preferred SkillsHardware/firmware testing experience in test harnesses, validation rigs, or embedded environments.Familiarity with macOS, with Xcode or Instruments experience being a plus.Understanding of computer architecture and power management fundamentals.Experience developing or maintaining test frameworks.Data analysis experience using pandas, matplotlib, or similar tools.Experience with hardware/software integration and system-level validation.
