Sr. Platform Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking two experienced Senior Platform Engineers to support an enterprise client’s on-premises cloud platform initiative. These engineers will join an existing Cloud Platform Engineering team responsible for deploying, validating, maintaining, and automating infrastructure and platform services within highly secure, disconnected customer environments.

The ideal candidate will have deep hands-on experience with VMware infrastructure, Terraform, Linux systems administration, Kubernetes, and infrastructure automation. This position requires an engineer who can work across platform delivery, deployment automation, infrastructure validation, security hardening, and operational troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, administer, and maintain VMware vSphere and ESXi environments supporting enterprise cloud platform workloads.

• Manage vCenter environments, VMware clusters, datastores, High Availability, Distributed Resource Scheduler, and virtual machine lifecycles.

• Support the packaging, delivery, installation, validation, and lifecycle management of on-premises platform services.

• Develop and maintain Terraform modules and Infrastructure as Code solutions.

• Automate infrastructure provisioning through Morpheus or comparable cloud management platforms.

• Support Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and platform delivery.

• Build automated deployment validation frameworks, health checks, smoke tests, and infrastructure testing solutions.

• Support software and infrastructure delivery into air-gapped, disconnected, or highly restricted environments.

• Maintain private package repositories, container image registries, and artifact distribution processes.

• Manage offline software dependencies, certificate lifecycles, and PKI integrations.

• Administer and troubleshoot Linux infrastructure and Kubernetes-based platform services.

• Package and deploy Kubernetes applications using Helm.

• Troubleshoot virtualization, networking, storage, operating system, and platform integration issues.

• Support infrastructure security and compliance requirements, including STIG and FIPS standards.

• Participate in issue triage, root cause analysis, release validation, and operational readiness reviews.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to improve deployment reliability, automation, and operational efficiency.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $55-$65 depending on experience. Health, dental, vision and a 401k option available.

Skills and Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, platform engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.

• Advanced hands-on experience administering VMware vSphere and ESXi environments.

• Strong experience managing VMware vCenter, clusters, datastores, High Availability, and Distributed Resource Scheduler.

• Hands-on experience developing infrastructure automation using Terraform.

• Advanced Linux systems administration and troubleshooting experience.

• Experience administering and troubleshooting production Kubernetes environments.

• Experience using Helm for Kubernetes application packaging and deployment.

• Experience with Git-based development and GitOps workflows.

• Experience supporting Infrastructure as Code and API-driven provisioning.

• Experience developing or supporting automated infrastructure deployments. • Experience with HPE Morpheus.

• Experience with VMware Aria, vRealize, CloudBolt, or another private cloud management platform.

• Experience supporting air-gapped or disconnected software deployments.
