Job Description

Responsibilities Join us as a Software Engineer and be instrumental in transforming the platforms that drive our Property & Casualty claims operations. This opportunity demands a robust full-stack engineering skill set and extensive expertise with AWS ecosystems. You will work collaboratively with product teams, architects, and claims operations to design and deliver scalable, secure, and user-friendly solutions that elevate customer experience, streamline claim processing, and boost operational efficiency for thousands of users. Qualifications Full-stack software development experience, with strong backend/service engineering capabilities

Strong proficiency in at least one of: Java (Spring Boot), TypeScript/Node.js, or Python, with the ability to work across the others as needed

Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts, including reliability, failure modes, retries/timeouts, idempotency, and eventual consistency

Proficiency building and operating solutions on AWS, including several of the following: Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB and/or RDS, S3, SNS/SQS, CloudWatch, Secrets Manager, and IAM

Experience designing and maintaining REST APIs, including versioning, backward compatibility, and API contracts

Experience with event-driven integration patterns, including queues/topics, DLQs, and replay/backfill considerations

Experience with containers and deployment on Kubernetes/OpenShift (ROSA), including deployments, services/ingress, configuration/secrets, and rollout strategies

Experience with CI/CD and release management practices using GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or similar, including safe rollout and rollback strategies

Demonstrated experience using AI-assisted developer tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and LLMs to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and other software engineering workflows

Ability to support production systems, including debugging, log/trace interpretation, incident triage, and effective collaboration across teams

Strong object-oriented programming (OOP) and service design fundamentals, with the ability to translate complex operational needs into maintainable designs

Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills

Experience designing, building, or operating custom AI agents, agentic development workflows, or Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers/integrations

Observability tooling experience, including CloudWatch and Dynatrace

Security/IAM and PII-handling experience, including least privilege, encryption, secrets management, and auditability

Legacy modernization and migration experience, including strangler patterns, cutover planning, and migration/backfill strategies

Experience supporting single-page applications (SPA) and front-end integration patterns; Angular familiarity is a plus

Our Benefits Because work-life balance is a priority at State Farm, compensation is based on our standard 38:45-hour work week!

Potential starting salary range: $110,000 - $140,000

Starting salary will be based on skills, background, and experience

High end of the range limited to applicants with significant relevant experience

Potential yearly incentive pay up to 15% of base salary
